‘Birds Of Prey’ Casts Ewan McGregor As Black Mask
  |  @   |

Birds of Prey will bring some of DC best female superheroes, villains, and vigilantes together for one film. The film, to be directed by Cathy Yan, will see the female ensemble fight against one of Gotham’s most notorious criminals, Black Mask. And now they have found the actor to play him.

Reports say Star Wars, Trainspotting, and Christopher Robin actor Ewan McGregor will play the role of Roman Sionis aka Black Mask. More on the report, below.

The Wrap says McGregor is currently in final negotiations to play Black Mask. This role would reunite him with his fellow Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who will be playing Huntress, a character who is on a mission of revenge against the mob who killed her parents when she was young. Other characters to appear include Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez).

Sharlto Copley and Sam Rockwell were the two other actors who were considered for the role of Black Mask. Copley seemed like the perfect fit considering he’s played psychotic killers before, and the same goes for Rockwell. However, it looks like McGregor won out the role. While the actor is known for his leading roles, it looks like he will take a sidestep away from all of that. So it should be interesting to see how all of this goes down, especially with all the changes that the DC Extended Universe is currently going through.

The final major role that is left to cast is that of Cassandra Cain. Yan and WB are looking to cast Cain with a 12-year-old Asian.

Roman Sionis isn’t an A-list villain, but he is one of the major villains in Batman lore. He murdered his own family at a young age so that he could inherit their wealth. But then he lost it all due to his mishandling of finances. Sionis would then blame the successfully wealthy Bruce Wayne for his failures, and took up the name Black Mask.

McGregor can currently be seen in Christopher Robin, Disney’s live-action take on Winnie the Pooh.

Written by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey opens in theaters on February 7, 2020.
