Mortal Engines trailer header

Director Christian RiversThe Mortal Engines hits theaters next month. The film adaptation of Phillip Reeve‘s young adult novel of the same name takes place in a dystopian future where civilization has been reduced to cities and metropolises living on large motor vehicles.

While the genre may be a bore, the plot for the film does give way for some big screen entertainment. And a new featurette takes a look how all of this came to be. Check it out, below.

While it is only a minute and a half long, this featurette offers our best look at the film so far. We have a better idea of how mankind was reduced to living on moving cities. Or cities above the sea. Or cities in the sky. However, the biggest threat of them all comes from the cities on wheels. And it appears that London will be making the moves to be the dominant power of the planet by claiming land, sea, and sky.

But it looks like there is a rebellion that will put a stop to them. While I am not too big on these YA adaptations, this looks genuinely good. But then there is the fact that this is yet, another YA adaptation set in a dystopian future. Very few have been able to see themselves to the end of the series. So let’s just hope the film is good enough to make it to the end.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Hundreds of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, a mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can stop London “” now a giant, predator city on wheels “” from devouring everything in its path. Feral, and fiercely driven by the memory of her mother, Hester joins forces with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), an outcast from London, along with Anna Fang (Jihae), a dangerous outlaw with a bounty on her head.

Mortal Engines also stars Hugo Weaving, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide and Stephen Lang.

Directed by Rivers, who uses a script written by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, Mortal Engines opens in theaters on December 14, 2018.
