This year celebrated the 80th anniversary of the creation of maybe the iconic comic character in American history, Superman. It’s also the 40th anniversary of the seminal film by Richard Donner that for many still holds up as the one true film version of Superman. Played by the late great Christopher Reeve, the film details the demise of alien planet Krypton as Jor-El, Oscar winner Marlon Brando sends his child off to planet Earth. Kal-El (Reeve) grows up to become mild mannered reporter Clark Kent of the Daily Planet, who must balance his time between wooing his colleague Lois Lane (Margot Kidder), and saving the world from the plans of corrupt tycoon Lex Luthor, (Gene Hackman). Now you can take the Man of Steel home with you on a brand new 4k Ultra Blu-Ray combo pack.

The film keeps all of its wonderful zany, bittersweet nostalgia of all of our childhoods, while reminding us that heroes do win, and CGI is not necessary for a good film. And the music… oh the music. This is a must have for any collection.

The Making of Superman: The Movie: In this section, Christopher Reeve (so bittersweet) gives us some kids opinions of Superman and some behind the scenes looks at the making of the movie. Narrated by Ernie Anderson, the magic of the sets, are laid out in amazing detail. We get to see the world of Krypton. It even includes Christopher Reeve’s workout regimen. There is so much packed into this little (big) section. Did you know the Daily Planet was the Daily News?

Superman and the Mole-Men: An old episode starring George Reeves from 1951. The Mole-Men are certainly interesting, especially the take on who the real villains are.

Cartoons: I don’t think anyone has really lived until they’ve watched Super-Rabbit (Bugs Bunny), Snafuperman (Private Snafu), or Stupor Duck (Daffy Duck). Don’t believe me? Just watch!
