Warning! Spoilers below for Sunday night’s episode of Outlander!

Last week on Outlander, Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy) named Jamie (Sam Heughan) her heir, but Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had a problem owning slaves to the detriment of their own lives. Predictably, a white man in the wrong caused a slave to touch him and now wanted the slave to die by hanging the slave via meat hook. Claire begged Jamie, as the man of the house, to save the slave. Jamie did and Claire performed surgery on him in the house. All of the plantation owners demanded the head of the slave or threatened to burn down the house. In an impossible situation, Claire allowed the slave to die with dignity.

Outlander 4.3 “The False Bride” review: The year is 1970 in Inverness, and Roger (Richard Rankin) toasts to Fiona’s (Iona Claire) new house. He’s heading to America after Brianna (Sophie Skelton). Fiona tells Roger to go get her. He arrives in Boston and they go on a road trip to North Carolina, bonding along the way. It is so good to see these two together again, happy.

The Frasers decide to leave. Jocasta is sad and hoped Jamie would love River Run. Ian (John Bell) balks at the thought of being sent home, as the things he’s seen has made him a man. Jamie agrees. They gain a knowledgable companion in John Quincy Myers (Kyle Rees). Myers wants to take Ian with him to trade with the Indians. He says the lad will be safe.

Claire tells Jamie a bit about Brianna and her prospects, then about his prospects. The mule gets away during a storm. Claire gets knocked out and they get separated. She finds a skull. Then sees the ghost of it. When she wakes up in her stockinged feet, her boot tracks lead her to Jamie and her boots. Spooky and cool, and… as it turns out, a fellow time traveler.

Brianna and Roger attend a Scottish festival in North Carolina, where Roger performs. They dance and have a great time. She gets him 3 gifts – a book about Scottish settlers in America, moonshine, and her. He gives her a bracelet that declares his love and proposes. She’s not ready. He’s not ready for what she is offering. She may not even believe in marriage. Oh Brianna.

The Frasers find the land they want to settle. They will call it… Fraser’s Ridge.

This was one of their non-violent, non-sexual episodes and yet still very good. I am very happy for the return of Roger and Brianna, and the festival was very fun, especially for the time period. I actually got a little confused for a minute when they did not announce Clan Fraser at the festival, but then… you’ll see. I remembered. It’s actually nice to see a complicated relationship such as Roger and Brianna’s in the story get deep. Claire and Jamie are straight up soul mates and you don’t get into other couples that much, so it is refreshing to see ups and downs of real couples.

Outlander airs Sunday nights at 8:00pm ET on Starz.
