NYC Horror Film Festival Returns Later This Month
  |  @   |

Even though Halloween is past, it’s not safe to put away the horror films just yet. The New York City Horror Film Festival returns to the city for 4 gory days starting on Thursday, November 29th and running through Sunday, December 2nd at the Cinepolis Chelsea. This is the 16th edition of the festival started by the late Michael J. Hein and continued by his family and friends. When all is said and done nearly 40 feature-length and short horror films will be screened at the festival.

Opening the film festival will be Nightmare Cinema, an anthology starring Oscar-nominee Mickey Rourke and Emmy-winner Richard Chamberlain and co-directed by Mick Garris (The Stand, Masters of Horror) and Joe Dante (The Howling, Gremlins). Tickets, as well as the full schedule, are available on their website. The major highlight at the NYC Horror Film Festival is their Lifetime Achievement Award presentation. The recipient this year is none other than the Candyman himself, Tony Todd.

Over 25 years ago, Todd entered into icon status playing the titular hook-handed ghost in the film directed by Bernard Rose from the story by Clive Barker. His deep voice and imposing 6’5 frame made Candyman an instant classic in the genre. With IMDb listing of over 200 credits, with many in the genre, Tony Todd is a well deserved addition to the list of NYCHFF Lifetime Achievement Award winners, joining the likes of Brad Dourif, Robert Englund, Roger Corman, and the late Tobe Hooper and George A. Romero.

The Cinepolis Chelsea is located at 260 West 23rd Street, New York, NY, 10011.
