Anne Hathaway In Talks To Join ‘Sesame Street’ Film
  |  @   |

Anne Hathaway is one of the many A-list talents who has visited Sesame Street, appearing in Elmo’s Christmas Countdown in 2009 to sing “I Want A Snuffy For Christmas” (seen below) with Big Bird and Snuffleupagus.

Now it looks like she will have a larger Sesame Street role. New reports say the actress is being eyed to star in a film based on the long-running children’s show alongside Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and many more. Check out the full report, below.

In the report exclusively made by Collider, Jonathan Krisel, the Emmy-nominated co-creator of Portlandia, will direct the film, which is said to be a musical. Variety adds that Chris Galletta penned a few of the rewrites on Mike Rosolio’s first draft. Shawn Levy and Michael Aguilar will produce.

A Sesame Street film had been in the works since 2012, when it was over at 20th Century Fox. However, since the children’s television program is now owned by Warner Bros., it will be distributed by them.

Sesame Street made its debut in the 1960s. Created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett, the show has given young audiences education and lessons on morals and ethics through entertainment. Since then, it has transformed into a pop culture phenomenon with actors like Tom Hiddleston, Amy Adams, and Janelle Monae having made cameos on the show. Even political figures have stopped by to visit.

But Sesame Street isn’t just known for those cameos, they’ve also done parodies of popular films and TV shows like Star Wars, The Avengers, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Birdman, and Stranger things. All in the name of giving kids quality television.

According to Collider’s report, Hathaway will play a character named Sally, “who is the name of the girl who appeared on the very first episode of the show, wherein longtime resident Gordon Robinson gives Sally a tour of Sesame Street and introduces her to Muppet characters such as Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.” So it stands to reason that Sally is now all grown-up and she will be giving the tour to someone else.

This isn’t the first time that Hathaway has appeared in a musical. The actress won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Les Misérables. She was also nominated for her role in Rachel Getting Married. But one doesn’t need to go through the long list of films she has appeared in to know who she is.

Hathaway most recently appeared in the all-female ensemble heist-comedy Ocean’s 8. Her upcoming roles include Serenity, The Hustle, and The Last Thing He Wanted.
