HFPA Pairs Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg To Host The 76th Golden Globes
  |  @   |

Hosting an awards show like the Oscars is not as glamorous as it used to be. With ratings continuing to decrease, it’s nearly impossible to find someone who wants to take on the gig. Even when they do manage to find someone, how well (or poorly) the show is received may very well be on them. So as you can see, it comes as no surprise that it has taken as long as it has to find hosts for upcoming awards shows.

Kevin Hart was just hired to host the Oscars. So not to be overshadowed, the Golden Globes will be flexing its muscles by bringing in two hosts. A very unlikely pair. New reports confirm that Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg will host the 76th Golden Globe Awards. More on the report below.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Oh and Samberg will be taking over hosting duties. Recent hosts include Seth Myers, Jimmy Fallon, Ricky Gervais, and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

NBC Entertainment co-chairmen Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks said of the announcement:

“Sandra and Andy are the perfect choices to host this world-class event. They bring wit, charm and style to a room filled with the very best of film and television. It’s sure to be another unforgettable fun-filled night.”

With Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Meher Tatna adding:

“We’re excited to welcome Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg as co-hosts of Hollywood’s Party of the Year. Both Golden Globe Award recipients have continually showcased their talents in film and television, and we can’t wait see what their undeniable chemistry will bring to the Golden Globes stage.”

Oh is probably best recognized for her work on Grey’s Anatomy. She currently stars in the BBC’s Killing Eve, for which she has an Emmy nomination and is among the 2019 Golden Globes nominees announced this morning. As for Samberg, he is pretty well-known around NBC. He’s an SNL alum, and he will return to Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which jumped from Fox to NBC Universal.

Now, these two make a very unlikely pair. Although, they are very talented. So that itself earns them the right to stand on that stage. But the two have not appeared in anything together, so it’s not clear what kind of chemistry the two will have. If any.

The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 6, 2019.
