Among one of the best things about Ralph Breaks The Internet is when Princess Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) sings “A Place Called Slaughter Race.” It is a hilarious satire on Disney songs where a princess has their own musical moments and expresses their search for what they truly desire through song. The self-deprecating sequence pokes fun at how these princesses break into song spontaneously and is set against the grimy and deadly world of the racing game Slaughter Race.
Now fans of that song can now experience it in all its fun and silly glory with the newly released “A Place Called Slaughter Race” music video. Check it out below.
Considering that “A Place Called Slaughter Race” is a major contender for Best Original Song, it comes as no surprise that it is readily available for all of us to see online.
Now for some interesting trivia on the song. It was penned by Disney music legend and Little Shop of Horror‘s Alan Menken, the songwriter behind The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. He also happened to win a few Academy Awards for some of those efforts. Silverman recorded it live with a 70-plus-piece orchestra.
The song also marks Gal Gadot‘s singing debut. Co-director Phil Johnston and music producer Tom MacDougall also contributed with some lyrics for the song.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” video-game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and best friend Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) leave the comforts of Litwak’s arcade in an attempt to save her game, Sugar Rush. Their quest takes them to the vast, uncharted world of the internet where they rely on the citizens of the internet””the Netizens””to help navigate their way. Lending a virtual hand are Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), the head algorithm and the heart and soul of the trend-making site “BuzzzTube,” and Shank (voice of Gal Gadot), a tough-as-nails driver from a gritty online auto-racing game called Slaughter Race, a place Vanellope wholeheartedly embraces””so much so that Ralph worries he may lose the only friend he’s ever had.
Directed by Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph”) and Phil Johnston (co-writer “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Zootopia,” writer, “Cedar Rapids”), and produced by Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Bolt,” “Lilo & Stitch”), “Ralph Breaks the Internet” hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2018.
