Disney Offering Free Showings Of ‘Black Panther’ In 250 AMC Theaters Across The Country
  |  @   |

It’s been nearly a year since Black Panther was released and became a worldwide phenomenon. In the wake of its success, the film has gone on to earn very high praise and multiple awards. Not only that, but it was the first superhero film to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture.

And now, fans and Oscar voters can experience the film in theaters once more for a one-week engagement at 250 participating AMC theaters from February 1-7, 2019. Find out how to get your tickets below.

Of the news Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said:

“Black Panther is groundbreaking for many reasons, including the rich diversity of voices behind its success. The story also showcases the power of knowledge to change the world for the better, and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to it. We’re proud to provide thousands of free screenings of Black Panther in hopes it will continue to inspire audiences, and to support UNCF with a $1.5 million grant to make the dream of higher education a reality for more students.”

Sure the move may be done to sway some of that Best Picture vote towards Disney, but these free showings also give some people the opportunity to see it in a theater. Furthermore, as Iger said above, the Walt Disney Company will also give a $1.5 million grant to support UNCF (United Negro College Fund) in furthering its mission to help minority students access and move to and through college, which they’ve been doing for nearly 75 years. The grant is part of Disney’s commitment to diverse communities and to expanding the pipeline of talent.

Black Panther, which was released on Black History Month last year, has grossed over $1.34 billion worldwide. This past Sunday, it won the top prize of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 2019 SAG Awards, beating out films like BlacKkKlasman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians, and A Star is Born. The film is also nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

It’s great to see that Disney is also giving minority students access to the film so that they can experience it theatrically. While the film may be out on Blu-ray and DVD, nothing really beats seeing it in a theater.

For free tickets to the Black Panther showings and a list of AMC participating theaters go to WeTicketIt. Tickets will be available to anyone, with two showings held per day.
