This year, Disney will be taking us to a whole new world of their live-action adaptations of their animated classics. Following up the success of such films like The Jungle Book and Beauty and The Beast, the studio will be releasing Aladdin. Expectations are riding high for this one as it is a widely beloved title and all eyes will be on Will Smith, who plays the role of Genie, who was voiced by the late Robin Williams in the original.
During the Grammy Awards broadcast on Sunday night, Disney unveiled another look at the live-action Aladdin, which reveals our first look at Smith’s genie. Watch it here below.
Many were wondering whether or not Smith’s Genie would be blue, the skin color of the character in the animated original, voiced by the late Robin Williams. Images have shown Smith in Arabic garb, but not blue. Although, Smith has addressed those concerns saying that he would be blue in genie form and not blue in human form. Now with this first look, we can clearly see that he will be blue.
For this teaser to be released on Grammy night, I find it rather funny that we do not get a small tease of any of the songs. Even one lyric from a familiar one. We know that Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and two new songs written by Menken and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. So hopefully they will be worth the wait.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
