As we found out in November of last year, a Breaking Bad movie from the creator of the TV series Vince Gilligan is on the way, and it will followAaron Paul‘s character Jesse Pinkman and his quest for freedom.
At the time it wasn’t clear if the movie would air on AMC, or if it would be released in theaters or elsewhere. Now we have an answer to that question. It’s being reported that the movie will air not only on AMC, but on Netflix as well.
The news makes all the sense in the world, as many Breaking Bad fans came from watching the series on Netflix after it had originally aired on AMC. Interestingly enough reports say those roles will be reversed for the movie, with it first being available on Netflix and then airing on AMC at a later date.
Many believe Netflix helped Breaking Bad become the success it was, including Gilligan, who had this to say after winning an Emmy back in 2013:
“I think Netflix kept us on the air. Not only are we standing up here, I don’t think our show would have even lasted beyond Season 2.
…
It’s a new era in television, and we’ve been very fortunate to reap the benefits.”
Very little is actually known about the Breaking Bad movie so far. All we have is the briefest of description that it will follow a kidnapped man’s escape and subsequent quest for freedom, and that it will be set after the events of the series and follow Paul’s Pinkman character. Gilligan will write, direct, and executive produce the film.
The current plan is to shoot the movie as a feature, though it has not been decided yet if it will air as a complete film or if it will air in episodes fitting to its TV series roots.
No release window for the Breaking Bad movie has been announced yet.
