I have been to the Garden of Earthly Delights, and it is stocked with good beer, puppies, and free manicures. By that I mean the adaptation of Good Omens to the small screen is going to make massive waves when it premieres later this year, at least if the show’s presence at this year’s SXSW is any indication.

The show’s producer, Amazon Studios, spared no expense in attracting attendees in downtown Austin to their popup “Good Omens: Garden of Earthly Delights.” Least you wonder, there are plenty of Earthly delights to be had, too. Amazon hired plenty of folks to dress up in appropriate angel or demon attire (plus I heard there’s even an entire biker gang roaming around), whom upon entering the “lush” imitation garden experience give you a wristband to redeem 3 free drinks and some prepared food from an enormous fake tree (The Tree of Tempting) bar at the center.

In addition to all the references to the source material like the countless wooden planks with prophecies written on them, the studio also set up stations for people to get their hair and nails done as well as a sound stage. Hell, even man’s best friends are in the mix, having partnered with a local dog rescue organization to promote adoptions in the form of a “Hellhound Puppy Den.” Attendees were also invited to play a game of social media photo bingo for a chance to win more prizes, too.

Originally a novel published in the early ’90s authored by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch is a humorous story about the birth of Satan’s son amid the impending apocalypse. The thing is, angels and demons alike aren’t too keen on the end times, and aim to do something about it. I read the book at the beginning of high school, so admittedly my memory is a bit hazy. But after walking through the “Garden,” I’m planning to give it another read while I wait for the TV series to debut May 31, 2019.

Later this weekend, Geeks of Doom will be covering a panel discussion with Good Omens cast and crew, including showrunner Neil Gaiman, director Douglas Mackinnon, and cast members David Tennant, Michael Sheen, and Jon Hamm. (I’m told there will also be clips from upcoming episodes, too.)
