‘The Lion King’ Trailer: Disney’s Latest Is Roaring With Nostalgia

The Lion King

The marketing campaign for The Lion King has been leaning towards nostalgia by giving us the updated looks of the animated original. Jon Favreau directs this newly updated kinda sorta live-action take on the Walt Disney Animation Studio classic, which sees Simba learning what it takes to be a true king.

Now there is a new trailer out that shows us just how beautiful this film will look and how far the technology has come since Favreau used something similar in The Jungle Book. Check it out below.

Favreau will be using “pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring iconic characters to the big screen in a whole new way.” And judging by the looks of it, these techniques are making the film look more beautiful with each new trailer that is been released. The CG creations look very tangible. Something that we got a small sample of when The Jungle Book came out. But with The Lion King, it seems amplified. Perhaps that is due in part to how popular the original is.

While everything looks and feels almost too perfect, we have yet to see anything that separates it from its animated counterpart.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Disney’s “The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book”), journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother””and former heir to the throne””has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

Featuring the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon, Disney’s The Lion King opens in U.S. theaters on July 19, 2019.
