‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ Director J.J. Abrams Is Fully Aware Of Those “Who Are Rey’s Parents” Questions
  |  @   |

The matter of who Rey’s parents are has always been on Star Wars fans’ minds ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released. Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, revealed that she comes from nothing because her parents were “filthy junk traders” who sold her off for drinking money and that she comes from nothing. But it may not have been the definitive answer many were looking for. Many still want to believe that she has some sort of familial connection to a character within the Star Wars universe.

Some people have their theories. But it seems like we will get something more concrete in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. At least, that’s according to director J.J. Abrams. Check out what he had to say below.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Abrams talked about The Rise of Skywalker, including some of the challenges that come with directing a highly anticipated and very secretive sequel that is also a conclusion to a nine-film arc. Additionally, he vaguely addressed the question about Rey’s parentage. Here’s what he had to say:

“I will say that we knew, going into this, that this movie, it had to be a satisfying conclusion. And we were well aware that that’s one of the things that’s been out there. I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode 8 [didn’t happen]. We have honored that. But I will say that there’s more to the story than you’ve seen.”

True to form, Abrams is giving an answer without actually giving an answer. And that’s all well and good considering that he doesn’t want to spoil any of that. And we probably won’t get the answer until the film is released. Even then, it seems like the answer will not satisfy everyone. Still, one can hope. I, for one, am happy that we don’t know. It’s not like we really need to know. Not knowing will allow Rey to carve her own path to becoming a legend. It is just a small piece of the story in the larger Star Wars pantheon.

Additionally, finding out who it may be may not actually live up to the mystery. They shouldn’t try to replicate the Vader is Luke’s father thing. That is just impossible to do. Of course, I am probably in the minority when it comes to this. People have the right to know. But I think it gets in the way of great storytelling.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, 2019. Click right here for much more on the film, including the recently released trailer.
