Marvel Studios’ The Eternals will be the first new chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe post Avengers: Endgame. Angelina Jolie was the first big name to join the cast of the cosmic superhero film that will be directed by Chloé Zhao. She was then joined by Kumail Nanjiani.
And now someone new has joined them. It’s being reported that Train to Busan star Ma Dong-seok, who also goes by the name Don Lee, is also set to join the film, making his US debut. More on the report below.
The Wrap first reported that Dong-seok is joining the film, though it is unclear who he is playing in the film. However, Marvel Studios has been keeping much of their post Avengers: Endgame titles a secret. Spider-Man: Far From Home remains the only title that will be released this year. Marvel hasn’t fully confirmed or revealed their plans after Far From Home. But we do know that The Eternals and others are in development or just announced like Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are coming. But it’s unclear when they will begin production or be released.
Though the full cast hasn’t been fully revealed, it has been reported that Jolie will play Sersi, who has superhuman strength and durability, and molecular and atomic manipulation, who isn’t afraid to walk amongst humans. Like Dong-seok, Nanjiani’s role hasn’t been revealed. Which isn’t a surprise since they are keeping everyone who isn’t involved with the film in the dark.
The film centers on a cosmic entity known as the Celestials, who genetically experimented on humans. In addition to Sersi there’s Ikaris, a being who channels cosmic energy to greatly enhance his senses. He also has regenerative healing powers, flight, psionic powers, matter transmutation, and teleportation. And because they have been endowed with great powers by the Celestials, all of them have superhuman durability, which makes them nearly immortal.
Written by Matthew Firpo and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals has no release date as of yet, but it will start shooting in August.
