Marvel: Live-Action ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Helstrom’ Series Coming Next Year
  |  @   |

Two more live-action series based on Marvel characters have been announced. One is Ghost Rider, which obviously follows the popular character once played by Nicolas Cage in a pair of movies. But unlike the Cage movies, which followed the Johnny Blaze version of the title character, the TV series will follow the Robbie Reyes version of the character.

The other series is Helstrom based on the comic characters Daimon Hellstrom, also known as Son of Satan and Hellstorm, and his sister Satana, who will be called Ana on the show.

Starring as Eddie Reyes AKA Ghost Rider in this live-action series will be someone quite familiar with the role: Gabriel Luna. The actor has already played the character before in nine episode of the Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2016 and 2017.

Here’s some more info on the Ghost Rider series from Marvel:

“Marvel’s Ghost Rider” centers on Robbie Reyes, played by Gabriel Luna (“Terminator: Dark Fate,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), the quintessential antihero, who lives on the Texas/Mexico border, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. When he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles controlling the power he wields. “Marvel’s Ghost Rider” is executive produced by Ingrid Escajeda, who will serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb.

Of Ghost Rider, Escajeda said:

“I couldn’t be more excited and honored to be handed the reins to a Marvel character as beloved as GHOST RIDER. This story hits every note for me””my love for grounded yet conflicted characters and my desire to scare the $&!# out of people! It’s important to me to find a take that thrills existing fans as well as wider audiences and I believe we’ve done just that.”

As for Helstrom, here’s a description of that series:

Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer in “Marvel’s Helstrom.” The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the worst of humanity””each with their attitude and skills. “Marvel’s Helstrom” is executive produced by Paul Zbyszewski, who will serve as showrunner and Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb.

Here’s what Zbyszewski had to say about that project:

“As a lifelong Marvel fan, I feel incredibly fortunate to help bring this darker, thrilling corner of the comic book universe to life, and I’m just grateful to everyone at Marvel Television and Hulu for the opportunity. Marvel’s known for all the heart, humor, and action they put into every series, but this time around we’re adding some scares to that mix. I think we’ve found a compelling way to dissect some of our deepest fears through the experiences of our two lead characters.”

The two characters are no strangers, as comic fans are well aware. Daimon Hellstrom actually appeared in the first issue of the Ghost Rider comic, where he and the title character battled Satan and Witch-Woman. Daimon and Satana also fought alongside Ghost Rider with his powerful team known as the Spirits of Vengeance.

You might be thinking that these series will be coming to Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ to join the many other projects in the works there, but this is not the case. Instead, Ghost Rider and Helstrom will be making their way to Hulu sometime in 2020.

The two new shows join Marvel’s Runaways, which is heading into its third season, and the M.O.D.O.K., Hit Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler, and Howard the Duck adult animated series which will culminate in their own Defenders-style event title The Offenders.
