Ryan Reynolds Finds ‘Pokemon: Detective Pikachu’ Leaked Online
  |  @   |

If you’ve been keeping up with the marketing for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, then you know how hilariously meta it has been. With a little bit of help from Ryan Reynolds using some of his infectious personality and sharp sense of humor, the upcoming film looks like it will live up to expectations and hopefully break the cycle of video game film adaptations being bad.

But the actor has found a leak of the full film that was posted on YouTube late last night. While he made sure to bring it to Warner Brothers’ attention, it looks like the studio has taken no action whatsoever. Of course, there may be a clever reason for that. Check out the video below.

Okay, so the video, from the YouTube channel Inspector Pikachu, is just Pikachu dancing on a loop. But it almost had us believe that it is the full movie with the studio tag openings. Soon enough, the video reveals itself to be nothing more than a marketing gag. It’s a sort of homage to the VHS exercise videos of the ’80s, complete with a bright neon background and synthesized sounds. And this thing goes on for an entire hour and 30 minutes. So don’t expect to see any leaks or spoilers. It’s just Pikachu doing the same thing over and over again for that length of time.

But you have to hand it to Reynolds and WB for releasing this.

Also starring in the film is Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ken Watanabe, with Reynolds providing the voice of the electric wise-cracking titular character.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

The first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu and is based on the beloved Pokémon brand””one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and one of the most successful media franchises of all time. Fans everywhere can now experience a Pikachu on the big screen as never before, as Detective Pikachu, a Pokémon like no other. The film also showcases a wide array of beloved Pokémon, each with its own unique traits and personality.

The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Detective Pikachu, they join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City””a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world””they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Detective Pikachu opens in theaters on May 10, 2019. Click right here for trailers and more.
