There has been some debate as to which Star Wars films will follow Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We knew that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was developing a new trilogy and that Game of Thrones creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were developing their own project. But we didn’t know which would come first. The recent release of Disney’s film release schedule didn’t reveal any clue as to which one would hit theaters first either, but it did show us that we will be getting at least three films in the coming years.

But now Bob Iger has revealed that Benioff and Weiss’s project will be the next Star Wars film we see after The Rise of Skywalker. See what he had to say below.

Iger spoke at the MoffetNathanson Media & Communications Summit (via iO9) today where he confirmed Benioff and Weiss’s Star Wars film will be the next one released following The Rise of Skywalker:

It will be another three years before we get to see another Star Wars film on the big screen. The original plan when Disney first acquired Lucasfilm and announced new Star Wars films was to release new installments to the main saga and spinoffs in alternating years. But with Solo: A Star Wars Story not meeting expectations and The Rise of Skywalker ending a trilogy, Disney figured it was best to re-evaluate the situation and take a short a hiatus.

Here’s what Iger said at the summit:

We know there will be three Star Wars films coming out in 2022, 2024, and 2026. What we don’t know if all three years belong to Benioff and Weiss. When it was announced that the two would be working on the franchise, it was stated that it would be a series of films but there was no set number.

We still don’t know much about what will become of Johnson’s trilogy. There were reports that Johnson would be walking away from it, which was dismissed by The Last Jedi director, who said he would be working on it after he finished Knives Out, his latest feature.
