New ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Promo “Summer In Hawkins” Released

A new promo for Stranger Things season three titled “Summer in Hawkins” was released by Netflix earlier this week.

The new promo is basically a Stranger Things homage to ’80s classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High set during a hot summer day at the Hawkins public pool. Click on over to the other side to check out the video.

You’ll notice a bit of product placement in the new promo. Sorta. A can of the infamous New Coke makes a couple of appearances. For those who are unfamiliar, Coca-Cola decided to shake things up in 1985 by re-formulating their original bubbly beverage and releasing it as New Coke. It…did not go well.

Almost as quickly as it had left the original Coke was back on store shelves, now called Coca-Cola Classic. Some thought Coca-Cola may have introduced the inferior product as a tactic in boosting sales of the original formula—which worked magnificently, if so—but this has been denied by the company.

Hoping to still make some coin off the failed New Coke it was later re-branded as Coke II, but again it failed and was ultimately discontinued.

So technically, since the product no longer exists, it wasn’t exactly product placement when this video was released. That, however, is about to change. Believe it or not, it’s since been announced that Netflix and Coca-Cola are partnering up to exhume New Coke from its grave and give it new life. Which may not be as crazy as it sounds. I kinda want to get my hands on some just because I forget what it tasted like and am curious.

You can click right here to find the previously released official trailer, date announcement teaser, episode titles teaser, Starcourt Mall teaser, and more if you missed anything.

Stranger Things season three is set to arrive on Netflix this summer on the 4th of July.

It’s summertime in Hawkins, Indiana. Stranger Things 3 premieres July 4. Only on Netflix.
