Django / Zorro Crossover Movie On The Way From Quentin Tarantino and Jerrod Carmichael

Crossovers are a pretty big movie event. Of course, many of them come from Marvel Studios and DC films. However, there is an unexpected one that some of us probably never saw coming.

Reports say that Quentin Tarantino will be working with The Carmichael Show creator and writer Jerrod Carmichael to co-write a Django and Zorro crossover adaptation of the comic book that was written by Tarantino and published by Dynamite Entertainment and DC Comics. More on the report below.

Sources tell Collider that the adaptation is real, however, they are unable to determine if Carmichael will be writing the script on his own, if he will have “oversight” from Tarantino, or if he will co-write the script with Tarantino.

Additionally, it is unclear if Tarantino will direct the project. The filmmaker has said that he would like to retire after making ten films. Collider speculates that he may end up as a producer on the film, given that he probably would not want to end his career with a sequel. They add that he rarely produces anything that he doesn’t direct, so he may just end up as an executive producer. Also unclear is if Jamie Foxx could return to reprise his role as Django.

Here’s the plot synopsis for the comic series from Amazon:

Set several years after the events of Django Unchained, Django again pursues evil men in his role as a bounty hunter. Taking to the roads of the American Southwest, he encounters the aged and sophisticated Diego de la Vega by sheer chance. Django is fascinated by this unusual character, the first wealthy white man he’s met who seems totally unconcerned with the color of his skin… and who can hold his own in a fight. Django hires on as Diego’s bodyguard, and is soon drawn into a fight to free the local indigenous people from brutal servitude. Learning much from the older man (as he did from King Schultz), he discovers that slavery isn’t exclusive to his people, as he even dons the mask of Zorro in their mission of mercy!

Should this project get the greenlight, it’s very likely that Sony will be the one to handle the distribution. They handled the international distribution rights for Django Unchained and will be handling Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

I am fairly intrigued by the prospect of seeing a character like Django ally himself with Zorro on the big screen. But I am interested in seeing just how involved Tarantino will be on the project. Though it looks like the sequel will punch up the comedy with Carmichael writing the script. But that is just speculation on my part.
