Pricing For Google’s Stadia Gaming Platform Revealed

The Google Stadia gaming platform was announced back in March. The platform, which Google says is “The Future of Gaming,” is basically a streaming service in which you play through a Chromecast instead of a console.

Now Google has revealed some pricing details for the service. They held a Stadia Connect livestream event earlier today, in which they showcased a few games coming to the platform as well as some of the price points people were wondering about when it was first announced. You can find more info and the videos below.

Google has revealed that there will eventually be two options to choose from: the Stadia Pro option and the Stadia Base option. The former will be available at launch, and will cost $9.99 per month. The latter will be available sometime next year, and will be free but have fewer features.

Here’s a rundown of both options from Google’s website:

Stadia Pro:
Part of Founder’s Edition

  • $9.99 / mo
Three months included in Founder’s Edition.
  • Resolution: Up to 4K
  • Frame rate: 60 FPS
  • Sound: 5.1 surround sound

  • Additional free games released regularly: Yes, starting with Destiny 2: The Collection
  • Stadia Pro-exclusive discounts on select game purchases: Yes

The Founder’s Edition referenced in the Stadia Pro option is a bundle with everything you’ll need to start playing which will cost $129. How much this will cost in the future is unclear. Google says in this tweet that it’s a $300 value.

The Founder’s Edition includes the limited edition Night Blue controller and Chromecast Ultra seen in the image above, plus three months of Stadia Pro access, an additional three months to give to a friend so you can play together, access to a growing library of free games starting with Destiny 2: The Collection, an exclusive Stadia name, and a Founder’s badge.
