Dave Bautista Says He Is Good With Marvel Studios Since James Gunn’s Rehiring
  |  @   |

Dave Bautista was among the first of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast to voice his frustrations over Disney and Marvel Studios’ decision to fire James Gunn over offensive tweets that were made a decade ago. Bautista went as far as threatening to walk out of the final film entirely if the two studios did not rehire Gunn. Ultimately, they never found a replacement, and eventually they rehired Gunn.

Though it has taken some time, Bautista is now coming out to talk about his relationship with Disney and Marvel, along with his fierce loyalty to Gunn. Check it out below.

Speaking to Pro Wrestling Sheet (via Collider), Bautista said everything was good with Marvel Studios, and had not actually spoken to anyone at Disney about the firing and rehiring. Here’s what he said:

“I hope it’s good. I never actually talked to anybody from Disney. I only ever talk to people from Marvel. And they were very understanding about the way I felt.”

“I got people who are very understanding of where I stood. A lot of them just weren’t outspoken about it. And I just happened to be very outspoken about the way I felt.”

“James [Gunn] is my friend. I love him. He helped change my life and I know he’s a decent person. He was being attacked. And what do you do when your friends are being attacked? You defend them, or you’re not really a friend.”

It’s rare to see this kind of loyalty nowadays. Bautista opened up about how he felt like it was his duty to defend his friend because he helped him launch his career.

And Bautista’s career didn’t just stop at Marvel Studios, since then, he has appeared in James Bond’s Spectre, Blade Runner 2049, and will soon appear in the buddy cop comedy Stuber and the family friendly comedy My Spy. He also has a role in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Of course, since everything is well and good, he will reappear as Drax in Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3. But there is no word on when that film will be released.
