‘Charlie’s Angels’ Trailer: Symbols Of Female Empowerment Are Back
  |  @   |

The pose. The music. And, of course, that exchange of pleasantries. These are just some of the recognizable staples of Charlie’s Angels. And it is all there in Sony Pictures’ new telling of the titular film directed by Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect 2).

And with these new tellings comes a brand new cast and vision. Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are the new Angels, with Banks playing the role of Bosley. But those aren’t the only changes that we are seeing. Check out the trailer below.

It looks like the Townsend Agency has expanded internationally, with men and women adopting the Bosley code name. With the help of the Angels that they have recruited, they provide security and investigate cases for their private clients.

The reboot comes at a time where audiences may not be as interested in reboots or remakes. Sequels have also floundered during this lackluster year. But maybe Charlie’s Angeles could be the booster shot to help bring back interest in recognizable title reboots.

In the film, Elena Houghlin (Scott) plays an MIT-trained scientist/whistleblower who is recruited into the Townsend Agency. Now an Angel she joins Sabina Wilson (Stewart), the “hard-partying, highly skilled wild card”; and Jane Kano (Balinska), the “ex-MI6 muscle of the group” to help prevent a global catastrophe from happening.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Charlie’s Angels have always provided security and investigative skills to private clients, and now the Townsend Agency has expanded internationally, with the smartest, most fearless, most highly trained women all over the globe – multiple teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs across the world. When a young systems engineer blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, these Angels are called into action, putting their lives on the line to protect us all.

Based on this first trailer, Banks looks like she is honoring the legacy of the Charlie’s Angel name while also making the piece contemporary. So it should be interesting to see how audiences will react to the film.

Djimon Hounsou and Patrick Stewart star as Bosleys stationed in different parts of the world. The film also stars Sam Claflin and Noah Centineo.

Charlie’s Angels opens November 15.
