Angelina Jolie is Maleficent in Disney's MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL

Although it wasn’t the most well-received of the Disney live-action adaptations of their animated classics, Maleficent went on to be one of the biggest blockbuster films of 2014. As such, it deserved to get a sequel. Flash-forward five years later, we are getting that with Angelina Jolie returning to reprise the role that she was born to play in Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil. However, the title character’s happiness won’t be continuing, as Aurora (Elle Fanning) has a new fiance, whose family promises to care for her the way that Maleficent never could. But are their intentions true or are they hiding something? And what other surprises are in store for the audience. Check out the trailer and more here below.

With a subtitle like Mistress Of Evil, there is simply no way that Maleficent would be good. But Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) doesn’t look like she gives Maleficent very many options. And while she may be subtly devious, there looks like there is something more nefarious going on. Just that look in her eye gives off that impression. As such, Maleficent goes into a protective mother mode and tries to shield Aurora from the danger. But she is simply head over heels in love with Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson replacing Maleficent‘s Brenton Thwaites), the son of Queen Ingrith. And once Ingrith says she can be a proper mother to Aurora, things go from bad to worse, with Maleficent declaring war on Ingrith’s kingdom.

So the first film delivered on its promise to give audiences a new perspective on the title character, by showing us why she became “evil.” Now it looks like we are seeing that once more. And in a new twist, Maleficent looks like she will find her family or tribe of fairies. The tag at the end reveals another fairy (Chiwetel Ejiofor) welcoming her home.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet the hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora’s impending marriage to Prince Phillip is cause for celebration in the kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors, as the wedding serves to unite the two worlds. When an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.

Ed Skrein, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville also star.

Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil opens in theaters on October 18, 2019.
