Though San Diego Comic-Con is reserved for mostly geeky things and nostalgia, sometimes, they like to throw a curveball or two. Take for instance, the Russo Brothers panel. Now, their panel could have been the two just reminiscing about their days toiling and perfecting the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While that was the case for a good portion of the panel, they also talked about some of the other projects they are working on, which includes a gritty police crime drama called 21 Bridges.
The film stars Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) as a NY detective who comes across a crime between two drug dealers and dirty cops. What will he do to get to the truth of it all? Shut down all exits and entrances, even if that means bridges, subways, and more? Check out the trailer for 21 Bridges below.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I was this excited to see a good old fashion contemporary crime drama. Yes, it may look like it is playing by the numbers, with Boseman’s character tasked with finding the murderers but also discovering that there is a larger crime at play. And then there is J.K. Simmons‘ character, who refuses to put the families of the dead cops “through trials, appeals, and parole hearings.” So what is he hiding and will the person who stands in Boseman’s way of uncovering the truth be behind these murders? And he warns Boseman that if he goes down this road any further, he would be on his own.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
21 Bridges follows an embattled NYPD detective (Chadwick Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 21 Bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.
21 Bridges also stars Taylor Kitsch, Sienna Miller, Stephan James, and Keith David.
Directed by Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones), and produced by the Russo Brothers, 21 Bridges hits theaters on September 27, 2019.
