SDCC 2019: Marvel Studios Confirms Angelina Jolie To Appear In ‘The Eternals’

Marvel Studios hasn’t had a major appearance at San Diego Comic-Con since 2017, and they made up for their absence in a very big way at SDCC 2019. First they announced the end of “The Infinity Saga,” which is the first 11 years of films since the studio launched way back in 2008. Then Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed a few titles and a few stars that will appear in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of those titles is The Eternals. Directed by Chloe Zhao, the film promises to be one of the most diverse ensemble films that Marvel has ever made. Check out the list below.

Ryan Penagos, Vice President & Creative Executive for Marvel, posted a look at the Marvel schedule, and it is stacked, to say the least:

We won’t be getting another Marvel film until at least May 1, 2020. But we will be getting two more Marvel films following that. One in the fall of 2020, and The Eternals on November 6, 2020.

Borys Kit of THR confirmed the date, and tweeted out that it will star Angelina Jolie. Check out the tweets:

It was thought that Jolie would be playing Sersi, a product of genetic enhancements by a cosmic entity known as the Eternals. But instead she will play Thena, who was born in the city of Olympia in ancient Greece, and is thus one of the Eternals of Olympia. Her powers include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes, and the ability to manipulate cosmic energy to augment her life force, granting her virtual invulnerability and immortality, the ability to project cosmic energy from her eyes or hands in the form of heat, light, or concussive force, and possibly other powers.

Penagos then confirmed the rest of the cast which includes Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, and Don Lee:

Additionally, this cast promises to be one of the most diverse of the major blockbusters as it is made of people of color and those with disabilities:

Henry will be playing Phastos, Lee will play Gilgamesh, and Hayek will be the leader of the Eternals. Also, McHugh is the youngest actor there but playing one of the oldest MCU characters.
