SDCC 2019: ‘Hawkeye’ Series Finally Gives Jeremy Renner’s Character A Shot At Being The Lead
  |  @   |

Though Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is one of the founding members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers, he never really had a major role in it. Yes, that started to change towards the end, but he is remembered as a supporting character. But that will change now that he will be the lead of his own show, simply titled Hawkeye, coming to Disney+ this fall.

Though the show isn’t expected to debut until later in 2020, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming series as well as Kate Bishop, a major character in Matt Fraction and David Aja’s comic series Hawkeye #1 (December 2016). In it, Barton found himself semi-retired and teaching Young Avenger Kate Bishop the ropes of being a skillful archer. More below.

Here’s a little bit about Kate Bishop from Marvel.com:

From a Young Avenger to the avenging Hawkeye, Kate Bishop has skyrocketed as a super hero, carving out her own legacy alongside Marvel’s greats. Want more Kate Bishop and her archery as art form? Pick up her latest series Hawkeye, on-shelves now!

Here’s what Borys Kit from THR said about the show’s theme:

In our previous coverage, we mentioned how the show will be “an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.”

So it looks like there won’t be any fights with demi-gods, angry robots, or mad titans. This is more grounded than anything Hawkeye’s ever been in.

Here’s a synopsis for Fraction and Aja’s Hawkeye from Amazon:

It’s Marvel’s most critically acclaimed comic in recent memory! Clint Barton, breakout star of a little Marvel movie you might have seen a while back, continues his fight for justice”¦and good rooftop BBQs! With Young Avenger Kate Bishop by his side, he’s out to get some downtime from being one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”¦but when the apartment building he’s moved into, and the neighbors he’s befriended, are threatened by a tracksuit-wearing, dog-abusing gang of Eastern European mobsters who say “bro” an awful lot, Clint must stand up and defend his new adopted family”¦any way he can.

Hawkeye is set to premiere on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.
