Though Marvel’s televised series are said to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they don’t really function as one considering how Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment don’t speak to each other in a way that would make it a cohesive shared universe. However, that will be different for the Marvel TV series over at Disney+, Disney’s exclusive streaming service.
While at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige plus Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan took to the stage to talk about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and mentioned a few surprises that will include the return of some characters from the Russo Brothers’ Captain America films. More on all of this, below.
Borys Kit of THR said The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would debut in the fall of 2020:
The Falcon and the Winter Solder coming for Fall 2020. For Disney+. Feige brings Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan to stage.
Of course, that wasn’t the only detail that was mentioned. There’s more. Daniel Brühl, who played Baron Helmut Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, would reprise his role on the show. And this time, he will have that signature mask from the comics.
Here’s what Ryan Penagos, Vice President & Creative Executive of Marvel New Media tweeted out:
Video just shot in on the panel and it was Daniel Bruhl coming back as Baron Zemo and it ended with him putting on the Zemo mask and I yelled and cursed so loud AHH. #MarvelStudios#MarvelSDCC#SDCC#AgentMLovesSDCC
We know Kari Skogland has been hired to direct the series, and Malcolm Spellman (Empire) will write the miniseries. Skogland’s previous credits include Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Liberty, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The Handmaiden’s Tale, and The Punisher. If they want to get a visceral and gritty actioner, they recently went to the right person to get that tone.
Previous reports said the series will have six episodes.
Honestly, even with Loki, WandaVision, Hawkeye, and What If?, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is one of my most anticipated shows of all the Marvel Studios shows that will stream on Disney+. And, of course, we will keep you updated on any new developments when they come in.
