‘Jojo Rabbit’ Trailer: First Look At Taika Waititi As Hitler In World War II Satire

Taika Waititi has revealed the first trailer for Jojo Rabbit.
The film is an anti-hate World War II satire which centers on a German boy named Jojo “Rabbit” Betzler who discovers that his mother is hiding a young Jewish girl, and whose imaginary friend happens to be Adolf Hitler. Check out the trailer and a poster below.
Jojo Rabbit stars Waititi as the satirized version of Hitler. Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, Sam Rockwell, and Scarlett Johansson also star.
Jojo Rabbit will be one of the headlining films at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and will be shown alongside the likes of Todd Phillips’ Joker and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out — now I am kind of jealous I can’t make it out there this year. That being said, the film festival is known to be a hot bed for award winners. And judging by the film’s release date, the studio believes it can win some.
After watching the trailer, how could anyone not want to see this? If anything, I am glad we are getting to see a person of color mock and ridicule one of the most reviled political figures in history. I honestly couldn’t help but giggle when Waititi as Hitler says, “People used to say a lot of nasty things about me: ‘Oh this guy is a lunatic. Oh, look at that psycho, he is going to get us all killed.'” It’s in the delivery and mannerisms that had me hooked, and I honestly cannot wait to see more.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Writer director Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis), whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in her attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his naive patriotism.
Written and directed by Waititi, based on the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens, Jojo Rabbit opens in theaters on October 18, 2019.
