‘The Irishman’ Trailer: Martin Scorsese Gives Netflix A Look At Organized Crime In Post-War America
  |  @   |

We’ve seen some pretty good Martin Scorsese films in the past, but The Irishman starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci will be a bit different from all of them. That’s because it will be the first of his films to be ever released directly to Netflix. The film marks the director’s return to the world of gangsters and mobsters as it will “journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime in post-war America.”

Check out the trailer here below.

Scorsese has given audiences plenty of movies that allowed them to peer into the inner workings of organized crime. Casino remains to be one of my favorites of those, it just so happens that The Irishman will be the first time that the director is reuniting with De Niro since the film’s 1995 release. It will also be the fourth film to star both De Niro and Pacino (following The Godfather Part II, Heat, and Righteous Kill). And let’s not forget that it will be the first time that Pacino has appeared in a Scorsese film. Then there’s Joe Pesci, who seemed to go into retirement after Love Ranch in 2010. He also provided a voice in A Warrior’s Tail, but the actor hasn’t had much of a presence since then.

The Irishman will see De Niro as Frank Sheeran, a labor union leader and alleged hitman for the Bufalino crime family, and Al Pacino as Jimmy Hoffa, the union boss who infamously went missing. Most assume he was offed by a hitman hired by a rival mob. But like some of Scorsese’s previous mob efforts, The Irishman looks to explore the relationships and politics that are shared between these real-life people and the decisions that they will make that will change their lives and those around them forever.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jack Huston, Kathrine Narducci, and Jesse Plemons also star.

The Irishman arrives in select theaters (in the U.S. and UK) and on Netflix later this fall.
