In honor of the 20th anniversary of The Matrix, the 1999 scifi-action film starring Keanu Reeves will be returning to select theaters for one week only later this month.

For this limited run, the Wachowski siblings-directed movie has been restored in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and will be screening exclusively at over 135 AMC Dolby Cinema theaters across the country starting August 30, 2019.

Check out the new 20th anniversary poster for the Warner Bros. film’s upcoming return to theaters, as well as the new trailer here below.

Tickets are on sale now through Dolby Cinema at AMC and AMC Theatres websites.

From the inspiring minds of the Wachowskis, The Matrix re-imagined our world and changed film history with its innovative cinematography and poignant story about humanity and pushing the boundaries of the mind.

Restored in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, exclusively showing in select Dolby Cinema screens this August.

The Matrix stars Keanu Reeves as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, and Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, along with Hugo Weaving, Marcus Chong, Anthony Ray Parker, and Joe Pantoliano. The first installment in what became a trilogy, the story is set in the 22nd century where after a computer programmer/hacker named Neo discovers that the world he lives in is actually a computer simulation that controls and feeds off humanity, he joins an underground rebellion to overthrow the title cyber intelligence. The filming featured martial arts fighting and wire fu techniques, along with “bullet time” visual effects, making it a stand-out at the time of its release in the United States on March 31, 1999. The Matrix, which was well-received by critics and audiences alike, went on to gross over $460 million worldwide and win several awards, including four Academy Awards (in editing, sound, and visual effects categories). This first feature was followed up by two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, which were filmed back-to-back and released in theaters six months apart in 2003.

The Matrix is available now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. There’s also a full Matrix Collection Blu-ray Box Set available that contains all three movies, along with the documentary The Matrix Revisited and the animated short The Animatrix, along with bonus material.
