As kids return to school, seasons change and we inch closer to Halloween. But for AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder, it’s business as usual as they keep bringing the goods with new series, Shudder Exclusives, and plenty of great genre films from around the world. Check out the highlights for September 2019 here below. Note – there are 2 more Shudder Exclusives planned, one for September 12 and one for September 24, and details for these will be released closer to their respective release dates.
The main highlight of Shudder’s Fall schedule is the premiere of the new Creepshow series from The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero. The 6-episode anthology series, which runs through Halloween (with new episodes on Thursdays), is based on the original 1982 collaboration between George A. Romero and Stephen King. The first episode hits Shudder on 9/26 featuring two stories, “Gray Matter” based on a story by King and directed by Nicotero and “The House of the Head,” which is written and directed by Josh Malerman of Bid Box fame. Check out the Creepshow trailer below:
Horror fans have come to know the phrase “Shudder Exclusive” as a symbol of greatness and there are plenty of those coming September. Korean supernatural horror The Wrath hits Shudder on 9/5 from director Young-sun Yoo. The film is a remake of the 1986 Korean horror film Woman’s Wail. (Also available on Shudder Canada and Shudder UK.) Check out the trailer below:
Later in the month on 9/19, Stephen Cognetti concludes his Hell House LLC trilogy with Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire. The found-footage series about a haunted hotel in upstate New York has produced two terrifying films, especially for those who love haunted attractions and the found-footage subgenre of horror. (Also available on Shudder Canada and Shudder UK.) Check out the teaser trailer below:
Among the list of new films joining Shudder this month are two of the best horror films of the last few years. South Korean zombie epic Train to Busan from director Yeon Sang-ho joins the service on 9/9. With no hyperbole, this is my all-time favorite zombie film, and one of the best ever made. It joins the director’s animated prequel Seoul Station, already available on the network. (Also available on Shudder Canada.)
Another terrific horror film joining Shudder is Adam Robitel’s The Taking of Deborah Logan. The found-footage possession film is one of the best of both those subgenres. It premieres on Shudder on 9/30.
