‘Doctor Sleep’ Trailer: Mike Flanagan Brings Back Some Haunting ‘Shining’ Memories
  |  @   |

Warner Bros. released the second trailer to Doctor Sleep, a sequel to Stephen King‘s The Shining. Written and directed by Mike Flanagan, the upcoming film stars Ewan McGregor as an older Dan Torrance who has fought to put the past traumas he experienced as a child at the Overlook Hotel behind him. But when he comes across Abra (Kyliegh Curran), a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine,” they must work together in a life-or-death battle against Rose the Hat and her followers. Check out the trailer here below.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Doctor Sleep continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before “” at once facing his fears and reawakening ghosts of the past.

Doctor Sleep is considered to be a sequel to both the film and the novel, that will not only bring back some things from the past – like the brown, red, and orange hexagonal carpet of the Overlook Hotel, those scary twins, the door where Dan’s dad hacked away at with an axe, the blood coming out of the elevator – it will also introduce new material that will expand on the mythology.

Flanagan is best known for his horror films like Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Gerald’s Game, as well as the Netflix horror anthology series The Haunting of Hill House, which is based on the Shirley Jackson’s novel of the same name. Given all of those credits on his resume, it is safe to say that Warner Bros. picked the right person to direct this film adaptation of King’s novel.

Rebecca Ferguson also stars.

Warner Bros. has scheduled Doctor Sleep for a November 8, 2019, release.
