Apple TV Plus

Apple is among the media giants that will be entering the streaming business. And now we are getting a better look at the service from their Apple Events. Among the things that were talked about, including the new iPhone 11, was when Apple TV+ will be launched and how much it will cost.

We can expect to start watching Apple TV+ content starting November 1, 2019, and the cost to access that content will be $4.99 per month. That’s $2.00 less than the $7.00 Disney is charging for their Disney+ streaming service, Netflix’s $12.99 per month for streaming alone, HBO Now’s $15.99 per month, and Amazon Prime’s $8.25 per month. Essentially, it is the cheapest of the entire lot. But there may be a good reason for that. More on the report below.

The Verge did some excellent coverage on the announcement. Those who subscribe to the streaming service will have family access, and get an entire year free if you by a new Apple device. Those who go with this option will have three months to claim the exclusive deal. After the year is done, subscribers will automatically be billed $4.99 per month. Additionally, up to six family members can share one Apple TV+ subscription.

The price alone is enough to intrigue those who may not be as interested in what Netflix has to offer, or isn’t a Disney fan, or finds HBO’s pricing too high. That being said, Apple TV+’s slate isn’t as expansive as some of its competitors. Right now, the tech giant has only been promoting The Morning Show starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell as well as Dickinson with Hailee Steinfeld. However, they will have more original content in the coming months, which includes a new serialized drama starring Jason Momoa, a comedy from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia creators Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, and a reboot of Terry Gilliam‘s Time Bandits co-written and directed by Taika Waititi.

Other headlining names who will direct, write, produce, and/or star in various shows are Damien Chazelle, Bryce Dallas Howard, Brie Larson, Steven Spielberg, and M. Night Shyamalan.

And unlike Disney+, which will launch about a week and a half later, Apple TV+ will be accessible to over 150 countries around the world. And unlike the binge model that Netflix provides, Apple TV+’s shows will premiere with three episodes before moving on to one episode per week releases.
