It will still be another year and a half before a new Jurassic World sequel hits theaters, and many are curious to see the state of that world now that dinosaurs are roaming free after they broke out at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. So director Colin Trevorrow and Jurassic World 3 co-writer Emily Carmichael came up with Battle Of Big Rock, a film short that shows how the people have adapted to co-existing with those giant beasts. The short recently aired after a broadcast showing of Jurassic World on FX. But just in case you missed it, Universal Pictures has put it up online for all you (and many other Jurassic Park and Jurassic World fans) to see.
The after-credits show brief clips that give us a glimpse at how dinosaurs have changed humans’ way of life and hint at what’s to come in Jurassic World 3. Just don’t expect those same dinosaurs to be attacking a city in an organized fashion. Here’s what he told Jurassic Outpost:
I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas. The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible””the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago.
Here’s its official synopsis:
The short takes place one year after the events of the last Jurassic World film in Big Rock National Park, where dinosaurs are now living in our world. The story follows a family of four whose encounter with these wild animals becomes a terrifying fight for survival.
On the creative side of things, Larry Fong handles the short’s cinematography and Amie Doherty will compose the score for the short, using themes and music from the previous films composers like John Williams and Michael Giacchino.
Jurassic World 3 is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2021.
