Jeffrey Wright In Talks To Play Commissioner Gordon In Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’
  |  @   |

For every Batman that has appeared in film, there has been a Commissioner Gordon. Though their roles have varied in size and capacity, there is no denying that the character is one of the most important fixtures in Batman lore. And now, Matt ReevesThe Batman, which will star Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, may have found its Commissioner.

According to new reports, Westworld star Jeffrey Wright is in talks to play Commissioner Gordon. More on the report below.

The Hollywood Reporter says Wright is in talks to play the character, an officer of the law who often has to rely on Batman for help in dealing with criminals like Joker, Riddler, and Penguin, who are beyond his control.

The character has made numerous appearances throughout the history of Batman. Pat Hingle played him in both the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher films. After that, Gary Oldman took over the role when Christopher Nolan gave the Batman film franchise a darker and grittier take. When Warner Bros. rebooted the character and fitted him into the DC Extended Universe, he was then played by J.K. Simmons. But that didn’t last too long when the franchise WB hoped to have fell apart when Ben Affleck’s script — back when he was still attached to write, direct and star in The Batman — didn’t meet expectations or standards.

In addition to Westworld, Wright has some major credits under his belt including three James Bond films, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and the upcoming No Time To Die. Other credits include The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games Mocking Jay Part I and Part II. He also had roles in Source Code, Hold the Dark and Game Night. And he joins a select few who have been a part of both DC Films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he is also providing the voice of The Watcher in Marvel Studios’ What If…?. He can next be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s financial drama The Laundromat and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch.

As far as we know, Reeves’ vision for The Batman will be a nod to the detective side of the caped crusader. He will be directing his own script, and will produce with his Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.
