Naomie Harris To Play Shriek In ‘Venom 2’
  |  @   |

Just mere days after it was announced that Shriek would be added to the villains roster for Andy SerkisVenom 2, comes news that Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Moonlight) will play the character. More on the story below.

Variety was the first to break the news. The confirmation comes after it was reported that Sony was looking to cast an unknown for the role. In the comics, Frances Louise Barrison aka Shriek has the power to shoot sonic projectiles and manipulate people’s emotions (bringing out people’s greatest fears, anger, etc.). She made her debut in Spider-Man: Unlimited #1, which was the start of the Maximum Carnage story arc. The character is actually closely associated with Carnage, who will be played by Woody Harrelson, and often seen as the bloody symbiote’s love interest. Their relationship can be best described as highly dysfunctional.

It’s not clear if the sequel will pull from that particular story arc considering they would be missing their key character, Spider-Man, as well as other supporting characters like Captain America, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger, and more. So it should be interesting to see what the sequel will be doing.

Aside from not knowing much about the film itself, we know that Tom Hardy will be returning to play as Eddie Brock aka Venom, the former washed-up journalist who lets an alien symbiote named Venom use his body as a host. Michelle Williams will return to play Anne Weying.

And it is not as if a lack of Spider-Man wasn’t a major problem for the franchise. Though critics weren’t too kind in their reviews for the first Venom, it did make huge box office waves, and earned a massive $856 million worldwide. That kind of money only warrants a sequel. And if it’s good, you know a third will be on the way.

As for Harris, she has a great filmography with credits that include 28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Moonlight, and a few James Bond films like Skyfall, Spectre, and the upcoming No Time To Die. She will next be seen in the cop drama Black and Blue.

Venom 2 opens in theaters on October 2, 2019.
