New 4K ‘Star Wars’ Restoration On Disney+ Messes With Han Solo and Greedo Cantina Scene
  |  @   |

The ongoing debate on who shot first, Han Solo or Greedo, continues. This honestly wouldn’t be a thing if changes hadn’t been made to the original Cantina scene from the first Star Wars film, in which Han was the first to shoot his blaster at Greedo. However, the controversy started when George Lucas altered it in the 1997 Special Edition, making it look like Greedo shot first, followed by a fatal shot from Han. Other alterations would soon follow, but none as crazy as this.

Now that Disney+ has launched, subscribers are taking a look at what the studio’s streaming service has to offer, including a 4K restoration with Dolby Vision and Atmos. But the impressive upgrade comes at a huge cost to the infamous “who shot first” scene, at least, because fans have notice that it has been further modified. Now it has been made to look like Han and Greedo shot simultaneously. More on the report below.

There are just so many options that are now available on Disney+, that it might be easy to go with something safe and familiar before taking a dive into some of what the streaming service has to offer in terms of original content. But there may be other reasons as to why subscribers watched the original Star Wars before anything else. There is an entire following dedicated to the visual comparisons of the franchise and any iterations of the films. Which leads us to what this article is about: a newer – and more twisted – take on the “who shot first” scene.

Again, it has been altered to look like both shot at the same time. Why this change was made is very unclear, but it seems that fans are not too happy about the change. Here are tweets from Star Wars Visual Comparisons:

Nope, it’s no joke. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any stranger – or worse – it somehow finds a way to do it. But let’s just hope that this is the end of it. Of course, this isn’t going to have any effect on those who live and breathe Star Wars. Of course, it is going to be fun to see if Lucasfilm or Disney will respond to the reactions. And if they do, what will they say? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Disney+ is available now.
