New Clip Shows How ‘The Mandalorian’ Is ‘Star Wars’ With Western Vibes
  |  @   |

This is a pretty big week for Disney. The entertainment giant launched Disney+, their exclusive streaming service, nationwide yesterday. Of course, we all know how subscribers have access to nearly the entire Disney vault. But there is also some original content to look forward to. Like The Mandalorian. The highly anticipated series made its debut to coincide with the launch. And yet, if you are still not a subscriber or are not convinced to be one, maybe a clip from the series will change your mind.

Pulled from the series’ first episode, the clip shows the titular character (Pedro Pascal) meet The Client (Werner Herzog), a man who is in need of his services for some unknown reason. He is also someone who has a very intimidating presence, and is guarded by a small group of Stormtroopers, who are armed to the teeth. Not that scares our anti-hero. Check out the clip below, along with a recently released special look video.

I will try to be as vague as possible in terms of what happens for those who haven’t seen the episode or are not a subscriber as of yet. Here, we see The Mandalorian arrive at a secluded location to meet The Client. This client is being guarded by Stormtroopers left over after the fall of the Empire. But when someone walks into the room, The Mandalorian pulls out his blaster from his holster and the rifle from his back, to which the Stormtroopers respond by pointing their blasters at him. It’s a tense standoff, to say the least. It’s four Stormtroopers to one bounty hunter. While the odds do not seem in our nameless anti-hero’s favor, he will gladly accept the challenge. However, cooler heads will prevail, and the parties start to talk about what the job is.

This one clip alone gives you a sense of what kind of tone to expect from The Mandalorian. As we’ve previously reported, showrunner and executive producer Jon Favreau is playing up the western vibes with the shot selections, framing, and pacing. And that holds true even in the opening minutes of the series.

And while I didn’t fall in love with the debut, I remain very intrigued with where this series is heading. I mean, subscribers who saw it know what I am talking about. And the fact that it is a Star Wars series that steps away from the Skywalker saga shows us that there is more to that galaxy than just the Jedi and Sith.

The Mandalorian will debut its second episode on Disney+ this Friday, November 15.
