Earlier this week Apple announced that their smart home speaker, the Homepod, will go on sale in stores beginning on February 9th. Pre-orders begin this week.
The story of the Homepod has been a strange one given Apple’s history. Recall that Apple created both the modern consumer digital music market in 2003 with iTunes and then, eight years later they launched the voice assistant game with their 2011 introduction of Siri. Given these milestones and a history of building some of the best hardware in modern consumer technology. It’s a shame they’re so late to this voice speaker game.

Listen: ‘Futurama’ Radio Play “Radiorama” With Full Voice Cast
|
We’ve been seeing quite a bit of Futurama lately, which is wonderful but also a little surprising considering that the show officially ended…yet again…in 2013 when Comedy Central pulled the plug after another run of episodes. First there was that live-action fan film, which didn’t feature the stars of the animated series but was still an impressive accomplishment. Then came word of a new mobile game called Worlds of Tomorrow, which would not only deliver new animation but also reunite the voice cast. Not the new seasons of episodes everyone desperately wishes some network or streaming service will order someday, but it was something to hold us over!
Now comes another Futurama treat. To help promote that very same mobile game, a double episode of the show was produced in collaboration with Nerdist. In order to make this happen, they bypassed all the time and money necessary to animate episodes, and instead made it a radio play featuring the voice cast of the show. Click over to give it a listen. You can also find a bonus behind the scenes video below, which features various members of the voice cast talking about the lasting appeal of Futurama and will no doubt make you wish the show was back even more than you already do.

Star Wars: Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel
Hardcover | Kindle | Digital Audiobook | Audio CD
Written by James Luceno
Read by Jonathan Davis
Del Rey | Random House Audio
Release Date: November 15, 2016
Welcome, one and all to my very first Audiobook Spotlight! With the theatrical release of Star Wars: Rogue One just days away, I wanted to make sure you know there is an amazing audiobook that’s out and ready to bridge the prequels and the original trilogy. Written by James Luceno and read by Jonathan Davis, Star Wars: Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel is an unabridged recording of the novel, so you won’t miss a single detail from the story. The great thing about listening to a book, rather than reading one, is that you can multitask and accomplish other things like chores, workouts, or homework! I prefer to listen to them while driving, but make sure you’re not one of those really passionate readers who gets so into the story that you forget what you’re doing! Here at Geeks Of Doom, we support Safe Audiobook Consumption.

Black Metal Friday: Forteresse ‘Thèmes Pour la Rébellion’ (Full Album)
I don’t usually feature entire albums for Black Metal Friday, but Forteresse‘s Thèmes Pour la Rébellion is so good throughout that I couldn’t pick just one track to share with you. It is a towering work of art that should be enjoyed as a whole, so that’s what I’m giving you.
Thèmes Pour la Rébellion is the Quebec band’s fifth full length album since their beginning in 2006. The record is already landing on many critics “Best of 2016 so far” lists. It’s definitely in the running for my top black metal album of the year. I urge you to check it out below.
