Graphic Novel Review: Sons of Chaos
  |

Sons of Chaos
Hardcover | Kindle
Writer: Chris Jaymes
Illustrator: Ale Aragon
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Release date: June 2019

I’m a sucker for a good historical novel. Done right, it can drop you into a time period, introduce you to characters you see as dear friends or bitter enemies, and immerse you into historical events in a deeply meaningful way. The graphic novel Sons of Chaos by writer Chris Jaymes (Party of Five, Chicago Hope, Lost) illuminates the harrowing 19th-century events of the Greek War of Independence through the lens of tragic underdog Marcos Botsaris. Game of Thrones meets 300 in this bleak-yet-epic saga portraying the costs of brutal and anything-but-fair conflict with impressively natural pacing. Massive, lustrous pages serve as a backdrop to the grandiose, fantastical, and occasionally wincingly violent artwork illustrated by Ale Aragon (28 Days Later, Deadpool).

Alex Garland Has Come Up With Ideas For ’28 Months Later’
  |  @   |

Ex Machina director Alex Garland has very few titles attached to his name, but is considered one of the best screenplay writers in the business. Most of his works are original, but he did work on both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, as a screenwriter for the former and an executive producer for the latter. Of course with the kind of following that the 28 films have produced, fans have been wondering when there would be 28 Months Later.

Now Garland kind of has an answer for that. In an interview, the screenwriter confirms that he has a story idea for the sequel, but adds that he won’t direct or produce. More on this below.

The GoD List: Comics for May 11, 2011
  |

Each week, MK2Fac3 and Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull list, grab some issues and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of May 11, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

MK2FAC3

Sorry guys and gals, it’s an all DC week for me with an emphasis on Bat this week. I try really hard to bring in indie books for this feature, and if you want that make sure to check out Northlanders, but sometimes it just has to be Gotham. So, if you don’t like Batman, a.) what’s wrong with you? and b.) skip down to Henchman’s Marvel love fest!

ISSUES

Batgirl #21 (DC Comics – $2.99): Batgirl is a phenomenon. It consistently hits on all cylinders, so there’s nothing not to look forward to. For 21 issues, Bryan Q. Miller has not disappointed with his scripts on this book, and while I did not prefer the artist on the past couple of issues, the story has been strong, cute, funny, and action packed. And this issue, and I know this for sure because I’ve seen the previews, features the return of the amazing Dustin Nguyen to the title, and his work on the title is breathtaking. I mean, the cover shown here is probably going to be my cover of the year. I’m really looking forward to this issue, and don’t be surprised when I have the next few issues of my pull list, as well. Deal with it. Or buy the issues!

28 Days Later #8
Written by Michael Alan Nelson
Art by Declan Shalvey
BOOM! Studios
Price: $3.99
Released Date: March 17, 2010

If you are a fan of anything zombie related, especially 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, then look no further than the 28 Days Later comic book series. If you were wondering what happened to those lone survivors between those two movies, then this is your chance to have the story laid out. BOOM! Studios along with writer Michael Alan Nelson (Fall of Cthulhu) takes this into his own hands and gives us a powerful conclusion to the story in these final pages to give us an “on the edge of our seat” read. With the help of Declan Shalvey‘s art (Frankenstein – Classical Comics), you are sure to have your mind blown.

No guts, no glory (pardon the pun) are definitely words to live by, but also words to caution. What would you do if you had one machete and a gun with only nine bullets remaining? Selena and Clint find out real quick what they are going to have to do in order to survive the chaos in the world they once knew and do whatever it takes to save their friend Derrick, no matter what the cost.
