‘Evolve’ Trailer & Gameplay: You Are The Monster Your Friends Are Hunting
  |  @   |

Multiplayer and co-op gaming is just as popular as ever, and so game makers must figure out fresh and exciting new ways to build on that popularity.

One such game that seeks to deliver that unique experience and is getting a lot of buzz is titled Evolve. Various video game reporters were able to get their hands on the game recently, and some very intriguing information is coming out. Basically, the game is designed as a five-person cooperative multiplayer experience where players try to hunt and kill a vicious monster. The catch? Only four of you or your friends will be hunting the monster…the 5th player IS the monster.

Game Review: BioShock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite
Playstation 3 | Xbox 360 | PC | PC Download
Rating: M
Developers: Irrational Games/2K Australia
Publisher: 2K Games
Creative Director/Lead Writer: Ken Levine
Original Music by Gary Schyman
Release Date: March 26, 2013

I can remember the first time I popped in the original Bioshock, and was literally blown away as I watched our hero survive a plane crash and end up finding this lighthouse, and then taking the magical journey to Rapture, an underwater paradise that surprised and fascinated me with every turn. I can say that that initial journey to Rapture and the first time we come in contact with a Big Daddy, will forever be sketched into my video game history.

I have gotten about halfway through both Bioshock and Bioshock 2, although since I have finished the newest game in the series, BioShock Infinite, I have decided to go back and finish both of the previous installments.

‘BioShock: Rapture’ Gets Release Date; Pre-Order Now!
  |  @   |

There’s been a book in the works for a while now from author John Shirley (with an intro chapter by Ken Levine). The book is called BioShock: Rapture, and it was originally planned to be released around the time that BioShock 2, the follow-up to the instant video game classic from 2K Games, hit stores.

Unfortunately the book disappeared for a while, but according to Amazon, it now has a release date and can be pre-ordered right now! And with a visit to Tor Books, the publisher behind the novel, confirmation was discovered: BioShock: Rapture will hit book stores on March 1, 2011. If you want to pre-order the book, you can do so at Amazon (Hardcover, Paperback, Kindle) and get ready to discover the origins of Rapture.

For the most part, novels that present stories set in existing popular video game worlds don’t always do so well. But there have been occasions where a title does really well, such as in the case of Halo, which has seen some popular books follow the various game releases. That said, this particular book sounds like a can’t-miss for fans of BioShock.

You can read a full synopsis of BioShock: Rapture below.

Game Review: Bioshock 2 (Playstation 3)

Bioshock 2
Developer: 2K/Digital Extremes/Arkane Studios
Platforms: Playstation 3 | Xbox 360 | PC
Publisher: 2K
ESRB: M
Release Date: February 9, 2010

Welcome back to Rapture, the Objectivist dystopia where one of the best stories in video game history takes place. Every since Bioshock changed the way people viewed FPS games, fans have anxiously awaited the sequel. The wait is over, and patience has paid off for those who wanted more.

Bioshock 2 takes place 8 years after the events of the first game. Industrialist Andrew Ryan, the founder of Rapture, is dead, as is his arch-nemesis Frank Fontaine, whose scheming brings about a civil war that caused the city’s infrastructure to collapse. In the time since the war ended, the remaining citizens have continued their decent into complete madness, made worse by the complete isolation and continued abuse of the gene-altering drug known as ADAM. ADAM grants users special abilities, but can easily be abused, resulting in a loss of sanity.

The story begins two years prior to the events of the first game, with the player as a “Big Daddy” one of the super-strong brainwashed warriors decked out in a scuba suit/battle armor. As a mindless soldier, the player only watches as they slowly lurch through Rapture guarding a “Little Sister,” a genetically modified and brainwashed child tasked with extracting ADAM from dead bodies throughout the city. While defending the girl from “splicers,” ADAM addicts whose minds have been ravaged by prolonged abuse, you are interrupted by Dr. Sophia Lamb, a psychiatrist causing a stir within Rapture. It turns out your “little sister” is Eleanor Lamb, Sophia’s daughter. Wanting her daughter back, Dr. Lamb uses mind control to force you to kill you yourself.
