Lightning Deals: 30 Rock, Heroes, The Dark Knight, Watchmen
  |  @   |

Every day, Amazon offers up “Lightning Deals,” limited quantities of various products for a discounted price for a 4-hour window of time. You have to be on the lookout for these deals and once the item runs out within that four hours, the sale is over. Meaning, if you see something on sale that you want, buy it immediately before it’s gone.

Typically you don’t know what will be on sale until the minute it gets posted, but as part of their Holiday event, Amazon has released this week’s Lightning Deal schedule for Movies & TV on DVD and Blu-ray. See below for a list of today’s deals — which begin at 8:30am PST and run through 9:30pm PST — along with more information on how these special deals work. The last deal goes up at 5:30pm PST.

There’s also TONS of extremely low prices and great deals on DVDs and Blu-rays right now, so visit the TOP HOLIDAY DEALS page to see the wide selection.

Also, Amazon’s Blu-ray box set deal of the week is the Glee: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Edition for only $34.99 (that’s 50% off the list price of $69.99). The TV Deal of the Week is Married…with Children: The Complete Series DVD box set for only $116.99 (that’s 53% off the list price of $250.95). TV Review: ’30 Rock’ Season 4 Premiere
  |

30 Rock
Season 4 Premiere
Starring Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan
NBC, Thursdays at 9:30pm

Last season, I tuned into the 30 Rock premiere with high expectations, only to be met by the awkward-and-not-in-a-good-way SeinfeldVision. After a consistently hilarious second season, everything in SeinfeldVision felt off, as if the writers had suddenly changed focus. The episode proved to be the harbinger of a disappointing season that, while still occasionally brilliant, relied far too heavily on big-name guest stars while letting its strong supporting cast fall to the wayside.

Fortunately, this season’s premiere — the cutely named Season 4 — was a happier beginning. We got a good amount of time with all of the secondary characters, including the oft-forgotten Josh, as well as all the clever one-liners we could possibly expect from a half-hour of comedy (my favorite: Pete’s “Another actor? Why? They have so many feelings and opinions!” Okay, it’s in Scott Adsit’s delivery. It’s not as funny written down). Plus, Steve Buscemi! It had its flaws, however. The theme of the episode — drawing in more mainstream viewers — may be a bit too on-the-nose for some, considering 30 Rock‘s notoriously low ratings. And it wasn’t a standout episode for any of the main cast, Kenneth in particular. But I’ll get to that later.

Video: ’30 Rock’ Science Fiction Moments
  |  @   |

The clever folks over at io9 have put together a video montage of science fiction moments from the NBC hit comedy 30 Rock.

Fans of the show who know their scifi know that quite often the show’s leading lady, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), loves to spout out references to scifi and other items of geek culture, and even wore a Princess Leia costume to jury duty to get out of serving. One time she was so impressed with an apartment that she exclaimed, “By hammer of Thor!” You don’t hear much like that on TV sitcoms. The sitcom has also incorporated spoofs of popular scifi and has had some primo scifi alumni guests like Carrie Fisher and Adam West.

Head on over to io9 to watch the 30 Rock science fiction video montage.
