Maximum Overdrive marked the directorial debut of the most successful horror author of all time, Stephen King. The film and King’s direction were widely panned to the tune of 24% on Metacritic and a measly 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. Time has been kind however, as the film built a cult following over the years and now there’s a brand new collector’s edition Blu-ray out by Vestron Video.
Based on King’s short story “Trucks,” Maximum Overdrive is about a rag tag group of survivors battling sentient machines sprung to life due to a mysterious comet. While no one will confuse this with an Oscar-winning classic, or even a top King adaptation, there is a certain charm about this weird movie.
AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young, who with his brother Angus Young co-founded the legendary hard rock band, has died, according to a statement released by the band on their official Facebook page. He was 64.
The statement did not reveal a cause of death, but the musician had been suffering from dementia, which had officially forced his retirement from the band in 2014. After his departure, his nephew Stevie Young took his place in the group.
Updating our story out of New Zealand from yesterday regarding AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd: The charges of attempting to procure a murder have been dropped due to insufficient evidence. This is great news for the legendary sticks man, as a conviction would have meant up to 10 years in prison. Rudd still faces charges of threatening to kill and possession of small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Disturbing news out of New Zealand as long time AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been arrested on charges of attempting to procure a murder. That’s Kiwi speak for trying to hire a hitman. Rudd has also been charged with possession of methamphetamine and cannabis which were discovered in his home during an early morning police raid. No further details have been released.
Rudd was recently absent from the shoot for two videos from AC/DC’s upcoming album and was not pictured in the band’s most recent promo photos, an absence that singer Brian Johnson had explained as Rudd having to attend to a “family emergency.”
Back in April, AC/DCannounced that one of the band’s founding members, Malcolm Young, would be taking a break from the band due to an undisclosed illness. Rumors of what could be wrong with the 61-year-old guitarist blew up on the internet, from stroke to cancer. We’ve waited anxiously for a real announcement, and now that it’s here the news is not good.
