Awesome ‘Back To The Future’ Theme Acoustic Guitar Cover (Video)
  |  @   |

Well then. If this doesn’t get your geeky goosebumps going, you may need to see a doctor or something.

Alan Silvestri‘s score for the 1985 time travel classic Back to the Future is one of the greatest and most recognizable film scores of all time. Every single time you hear it, it’s hard not to smile. It can make life’s pains melt away. It’s that damn good.

In the video below you’ll find an acoustic guitar cover of Silvestri’s theme for the movie, and it is surprisingly awesome. You might not think an acoustic guitar alone is enough to deliver the Back to the Future theme, but go forth now and see for yourself!

Listen To Samples From Alan Silvestri’s Score For ‘The Avengers’
  |

A new rock-packed soundtrack for next month’s Marvel super-team spectacular The Avengers is scheduled for release three days before the movie opens (you can pre-order Avengers Assemble here), but no U.S. date has been set for a release of the film’s orchestral score composed by Alan Silvestri.

Amazon’s UK site has the Avengers score being released on April 20 and has posted brief snippets from all 18 tracks of the album. You can check out a preview of Silvestri’s score here.

It is exactly what you would expect an Alan Silvestri score for a grand-scale summer blockbuster to be, a rousing action score meant to generate excitement and radiate emotion. I can’t wait to hear the score in its entirety and see it matched to the Joss Whedon-director superhero adventure on the biggest of movie screens.

A ‘Back to the Future’ Musical Possibly Coming To Broadway?
  |

When a classic film franchise’s prospects of returning to the big screen have forever dried up, its creators look for any remaining possibility of milking every last cent from the property’s dormant viability. So it doesn’t surprise me in the least that the 1985 sci-fi comedy blockbuster Back to the Future might be the latest beloved film of my youth to be resurrected as a Broadway musical.

Music Review: Captain America: The First Avenger Soundtrack

Captain America: The First Avenger Soundtrack
CD | MP3
Alan Silvestri
Walt Disney Records
Release Date: July 19, 2011

This summer movie season has brought us the now customary overpowering glut of blockbuster superhero epics, and with them some interesting but ultimately unmemorable orchestral scores. It’s disappointing when esteemed composers like Patrick Doyle and James Newton Howard are put to work on movies such as Thor and Green Lantern and they can’t even be moved to create good music for them. Neither musical score packed even the slightest amount of the mystery, tension, and high adventure all classic action-movie scores bring to their accompanying films, although to be fair Doyle’s Thor soundtrack had its share of moments worthy of the God of Thunder. If the music doesn’t care about the characters and the on-screen action, then why should we? Most composers tend to fall back on the same musical motifs that do little to stand out as nothing more than the components of a standard soundtrack. It all sounds nice, but you won’t be humming the themes for hours or days after you see the movie or purchase the soundtrack CD.

Listen: Preview Of Alan Silvestri’s ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Score
  |  @   |

Before we know it, the long-awaited Captain America: The First Avenger will finally be in theaters, and once you’re finished buying themed donuts and watching the trailers, why not give the film’s score a little listen?

Check out the video here below which contains a nearly 14-minute preview of composer Alan Silvestri‘s score for the film, which stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America.

Silvestri is best known for his scores for classics like Back To The Future trilogy, Forrest Gump, and Predator. His Captain America score fits in nicely amongst his numerous previously works and I personally felt like this 13-plus-minute preview went by all too fast. Definitely give it a listen!
