Tarzan

Warner Brothers has set a release date for their live-action take on Tarzan, the story of a boy raised in the jungles of Africa by apes.

The studio has locked the movie in for the July 1, 2016 date, putting it in the same summer as WB’s recently pushed back Batman vs. Superman sequel to Man of Steel.

The movie stars True Blood fan favorite Alexander Skarsgard as the titular vine-swinging man of the wild.

Disconnect Blu-ray coverDisconnect
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Henry Alex Rubin
Starring Jason Bateman, Alexander Skarsgard, Frank Grillo, Michael Nyqvist, Paula Patton, Jonah Bobo, Andrea Riseborough and Max Thieriot
Lionsgate
Theatrical Release Date: April 12, 2013
Blu-ray/DVD Release Date: September 17, 2013

First time director, Henry Alex Rubin, masters one of the most formidable difficulties in cinema with the greatest of ease and subtlety. He is able to take multiple narratives and seamlessly connect them in plausible ways in Disconnect. This weaving of narratives can be cumbersome and tackily melodramatic. Such was the case in 2005 when Crash made this storytelling popular, and a year later Babel grandly exploited the ploy to achieve artistic splendor. Each of these films was successful in their own right (Crash winning Best Picture at the Oscars and Babel receiving much critical acclaim).

After those two aforementioned films it seemed that the interlocking narrative was bound for obsolescence, following many botched attempts to replicate the magic that directors Paul Haggis and Alfonso Cuaron captured. But Mr. Rubin, working with an impeccable script crafted by Andrew Stern, resuscitates this form of narrative, attaching to it a social and domestic relevance that will undoubtedly leave viewers reeling after realizing there is a latent infection not only constantly threatening our society today but also our personal lives.

Eric Northman nude reading sunbath True Blood Season 6 finale

It’s nothing new for Alexander Skarsgard to be full-on naked during some of his scenes as Eric Northman on True Blood. Nudity is a common thing on the set of the HBO series and the actor reportedly has no problem going unclothed and doesn’t even use any of the common tricks to cover himself up during filming (e.g., a sock), though the scenes are shot in a way where the audience only gets the standard butt shots. But, since the 1,000-year-old Viking vampire does enjoy a lot of sex, fans of the Swedish actor do get to see a lot of skin from Skarsgard, though the twig and berries remain unseen. That is, until tonight.

During Sunday’s season 6 finale, titled “Radioactive,” the vampire went full-frontal and it wasn’t even during a sex scene!

Northman’s appearance midway through the episode was surprise enough, but then when the full reveal happened it was like that “Here’s your penis!” moment from Friends when Monica turns around to see Joey fully naked.

Sarah’s latest assignment: infiltrate The East, an anarchist collective that targets multinational corporations and their corrupt CEOs.

Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd and Ellen Page co-star as Benji and Lizzy, leaders of The East who use “jams” to expose pharmaceutical companies and energy conglomerates that destroy the planet. These agents of chaos aren’t just environmental activists, but victims of the system. Take for instance the East’s doctor, played by Toby Kebbell, who used a “miracle” antibiotic while on an aid mission to Africa. The drug ravaged his nervous system; he has to use superglue to treat wounds because his hands are too shaky to make stitches.
