Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim

Cartoon Network’s late night Adult Swim line-up is one of the precious few reasons I still bother having a cable box in my home these days. Within their nightly live-action and animated programming block can be found some of the funniest and imaginative writing and performances to ever be seen on television, along with reruns of Family Guy and American Dad.

The network shrewdly combines more accessible fare like Robot Chicken, Childrens Hospital, and NTSF:SD:SUV with boldly bizarre, short-lived experiments (they really should bring back The Heart, She Holler) to maintain their healthy fanbase and serve as a wonderland of creative freedom. They show no signs of letting up any time soon, and in fact Cartoon Network just released a list of new shows and pilots they have in development for Adult Swim in the coming year.

You can check out the full list here below.

Whether you love or hate Family Guy, you have to admit that their work spoofing Star Wars (with the blessing of a one George Lucas, of course) has been pretty fantastic thus far.

It’s already been stated that they would not be doing the prequel movies of the mega-franchise, so all that’s left to be done is release the third and final spoof of Return of the Jedi. The final installment is called Family Guy: It’s A Trap!, and it will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 21. And to help get you excited, you can get your first look at the trailer right now!

Unlike the first two chapters of this epic animated parody, characters from all of creator Seth MacFarlane‘s shows will be used, including American Dad and The Cleveland Show. You’ll catch a few of said characters making brief appearances throughout the trailer.

Use the Force to bring some tasty treats closer, then head on over to the other side to check out the trailer for Family Guy: It’s A Trap! immediately!

Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane has made quite a name for himself over the last decade. It all began in disastrous fashion when his new show Family Guy ended up canceled by Fox after a few seasons. Thankfully, it found an massive following on DVD and eventually was revived. After that, the show caught fire and MacFarlane ended up bringing a new show to the network called American Dad, and eventually signing an unbelievable $100 million deal.

One thing that MacFarlane has not done over the years is direct a movie, but that’s all about to change now. Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Ted, a movie developed by Media Rights Capital and written by MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin, and Wellesley Wild.

family guy something something something dark sideFamily Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Dominic Polcino
Starring Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Patrick Warburton, Mike Green
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
Release Date: December 22, 2009

Family Guy is at it again with their second visit to the Star Wars universe in Something Something Something Dark Side. After they successfully spoofed Star Wars: A New Hope in humorous but faithful fashion with Blue Harvest, we could hardly wait for more to come around. Now that we have this cartoon version of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back available to us, the trilogy spoof is almost complete!

The best thing about these movies is that everyone can enjoy them. Not everyone is a Star Wars fanatic, so this is a hilarious way for them to see the world and the characters, even if it’s absurdly different from the way that George Lucas created them to be. For those of you non-Star Wars fans, this second film in the series takes place a few years after the Rebel Alliance blew the hell out of the Emperor and Darth Vader’s precious Death Star. Now the Empire is hot on their tail with plans for revenge. After Luke Skywalker comes into his own as a Jedi with intense training by Jedi Master Yoda, he hurries to a showdown with Vader after the evil Sith springs a trap on Han Solo, Princess Leia, and his other companions.

Head on over to the not-so-dark other side for more and to check out a trailer from this new movie.

After ‘Star Wars,’ Could ‘Family Guy’ Tackle ‘Indiana Jones’ Next?

Family Guy Indiana Jones

Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane recently had a little chat with the LA Times before a little house party red carpet premiere of his next Star Wars spoof, Something Something Something Dark Side. One of the topics that came up, was what possible popular properties could see themselves being spoofed in the future, to which MacFarlane admitted names like Star Trek, Back to the Future, and Indiana Jones were options.

A third Star Wars spoof likely called We Have a Bad Feeling About This is up next and will be released next year, but that doesn’t mean that plans for the future can be discussed. The only issue with the lucky contestants that are listed off is that “Lucas gave us the rights. Lucas agreed to let us do this, and that’s a rare thing. Most legal departments are much more overprotective,” McFarlane explained. And since George Lucas himself gave the thumbs up to Star Wars getting an animated comedy makeover, that leaves Indiana Jones as the obvious best bet.
