EA Closing ‘Dead Space,’ Unreleased ‘Star Wars’ Game Developer Visceral
  |  @   |

It’s been four years now since Disney decided to close down longtime Star Wars gamemaker LucasArts and instead sign an exclusive licensing deal with video game factory Electronic Arts. At first things showed some promise, with multiple titles expected including first-person shooter Battlefront, a third-person game from Dead Space developer Visceral Games, and more.

But in the four years since it’s all been a bit of a nightmare scenario for fans. And it keeps getting worse, as EA has announced that they’ve decided to shut down Visceral Games. Though there is some good news: the Star Wars game they’ve been working on is not being killed off with the developer. Not yet, at least. Read the full announcement below.

E3 2016: First Look At New ‘Star Wars’ Games

Instead of focusing on one specific Star Wars game such as Star Wars Battlefront, EA took the opportunity to preview all of the games they’re working on for the franchise, which is many from a bunch of different developers including Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment, who’s working on a third-person title, BioWare, DICE, and more.

As far as actually showing the games, there’s not a whole lot of that. It’s more of a behind the scenes video talking with many of the people who are working on these highly anticipated Star Wars games. But there is one particular game that is briefly shown that will excite eager fans. That would be the game being worked on by Dead Space developer Visceral Games, led by former top Naughty Dog talent Amy Hennig—who was a writer and creative director on their Uncharted series and joined Visceral back in April of 2014—with the help of Lucasfilm VP and Executive Creative Director Doug Chiang.

It’s not much at all, and it is early footage, but you can see that brief first gameplay peek and more on the various Star Wars games being worked on in the video below.

Various Star Wars video games are in development at Electronic Arts, who locked up exclusive rights to make games based on the property back in May of last year after Disney decided to close down LucasArts, and its many studios.

Now comes word that one of those games will have a top talent leading it. It’s been announced that Amy Hennig, a writer and creative director on Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series, will lead the development of the Star Wars game being made by Dead Space developer Visceral Games.
