Life of Pi

Fox went with an unconventional idea with promoting their upcoming film The Life of Pi. Rather than release a traditional trailer, the studio moved forward with releasing a variety of small clips from the film in front of their movies like Prometheus. We’ve also seen a few pieces of promotional artwork for the film.

Now The Life of Pi has a full-length trailer, and it’s nothing short of amazing. Check it out below.

Life of Pi Header

Last week we reported that exclusive scenes from Ang Lee‘s Life of Pi were been shown in front of 3D showings for Fox movies. Prometheus was the first, and more scenes will be shown when Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter hits theaters later this month. Now I am kind of upset at myself for not watching Prometheus in 3D.

It’s a new strategy for the studio to get audiences interested in the movie. They haven’t even shown a teaser trailer yet. I haven’t heard any reactions to these clips so I can’t make any real judgments. Perhaps it’s because the audience didn’t know what Life of Pi is to begin with.

But as Fox continues to push this new way to market the film, the studio has released a very brief clip from Life of Pi. Check it out below.

Life of Pi

Trailers are cut and edited to fit a short time span to tell a story, set up the character, and build some sort of anticipation. Most of these trailers are just a montage of short clips, but Fox has decided to go an unconventional route with Ang Lee’s adaptation of Life of Pi. Rather than have those montage of clips, the studio has decided to show full-length clips from the film. According to the report there will be more clips that are attached to showings of Ice Age: Continental Drift and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

According to the New York Times, these clips will appear in front of the showings for Prometheus. Not only that, but they will be presented in 3D. It should be interesting to see what kind of footage we will be seeing from Lee’s latest directorial effort. Hopefully these clips are compelling enough to get audiences excited to see Life of Pi, which will open in theaters this November.
