‘Venom’ Success Leads To More Updates On ‘Morbius’ and ‘Kraven The Hunter’
  |  @   |

The future looks pretty good for Sony’s Spider-Man-less universe. Venom turned out to be a bigger hit than expected, despite critics panning the film. So instead of going back to the drawing board to figure out what to do with these characters, the studio is pushing forward on some already announced titles. Morbius: The Living Vampire and Kraven the Hunter are among the two characters connected to Spider-Man lore who are getting their own films. And now, we are getting a few surprising updates on them.

For Morbius, that will be the next film to go into production. For Kraven the Hunter, well, we might see him go up against a certain webslinger. More on these reports, below.

Lionsgate Acquires Rights To ‘Naruto’; Hires Director
  |  @   |

This year The Hunger Games franchise, one of Lionsgate’s most successful and lucrative franchises, comes to an end, unless they follow that up with spinoffs and/or prequels. But if it were truly to end, then the studio would need to find another brand. They recently acquired the rights to the Power Rangers movie, and have already hired Project Almanac‘s Dean Israelite to direct the film, although a January release doesn’t bode well for it.

However, they may be banking on an adaptation of Naruto, a popular Japanese anime and manga written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, to be their next big franchise. More on this story below.

It would be months before an actual confirmation could be made, with the two playing coy during every interview opportunity. Sony is announcing that an Untitled Spider-Man animated film is in the works. Hit the jump for more.

Drew Goddard To Write and Direct Marvel’s Spider-Man Movie, Could Be ‘Spectacular’
  |

Three weeks ago, fans of the Spider-Man franchise who were less than enthused by its recent entries breathed a sigh of relief when the news broke that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had finally worked out a deal that would allow for Peter Parker and his iconic super alter ego to appear in one of the upcoming features from Marvel as well as headline a new film that Marvel and Sony would co-produce. The deal was major enough to impact Marvel’s Phase Three release schedule, with four movies getting their release dates pushed back.

If Kellvin Chavez at Latino Review is to be believed, and that dude is rarely wrong, it looks as if the studios have already found their director for the next Spider-Man movie.
